1945 Assistant Resource Officer

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a federally funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks an Assistant Resource Officer  for the Grantmaking Resource Center (GRC).  This position is based in Washington, D.C.


Position Summary:

The Assistant Resource Officer will work with the Director, Grantmaking Resource Center and the Senior Resource Officer to engineer learning opportunities for the Grantmaking Program. The Assistant Resource Officer will contribute to training engagement strategies and performance assistance needs including documentation, intranet communications, visualizations, and feedback collection. The Assistant Resource Officer will also support efforts to integrate systems training into the greater training program, and institutionalizing the learning function in the Grantmaking Program at NED.



  • Coordinates informal and social learning opportunities—i.e. brownbags and webinars.
  • Supports the Senior Resource Officer in implementing a new staff onboarding program.
  • Implements existing basic trainings, including coordinating all logistics, updating documentation with trainers, and managing follow up through engagement strategies.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Resource Officer and GRC Systems team to integrate grants management system training into the learning ecosystem.
  • Assists the Senior Resource Officer with Training of Trainers and modelling standards for training delivery and facilitation.
  • Participates in process analysis with the team; makes suggestions and assists with implementing relevant adjustments to the learning ecosystem.
  • Edits, identifies instructional writing gaps, and updates process documentation as needed.
  • Ensures the intranet site reflects recent updates to process documentation as a resource for documentation, training, and communications.
  • Participates in groups representing best practices in training and grantmaking.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Resource Officer.



  • Knowledge/Experience:
    • Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in international relations, political science, or organizational development.
    • 3+ years related experience with international grantmaking, event management, or non-profit experience.
    • Basic familiarity with and aptitude for learning best practices in training, facilitation, knowledge management, and writing for instructional design.


  • Other Qualifications:
    • Project and/or event management experience including organization, planning, and people management skills.
    • Intermediate presentation skills and ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
    • Authorized to work in the United States.

    • Solid ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals across various departments, including verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
    • Strong initiative, attention to detail, and efficiency in prioritizing tasks.
    • The ability to establish positive relationships, build trust and rapport, actively listen, and exercise sound judgement navigating complex situations.
