The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a congressionally funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks an Audit Associate to join the Compliance team. This position is based in Washington, D.C.


Position Summary:

The Audit Associate assists the Compliance department in their day-to-day tasks, including but not limited to routine administrative and related clerical tasks as well as assisting Regional Auditors in the financial monitoring of NED Grantees.



    • Assist in the financial monitoring of grantees shall include conducting risk assessments, preparation of audit/compliance reports, and timely closeout of grants in compliance with Federal rules and regulations and NED’s grant making policies and procedures.
    • Assist in the updating and sending of required periodical standard correspondences or as needed.
    • Make copies, create files and labels, file and pull documents, maintain the audit files and send files to storage.
    • Assist in the maintenance of the Compliance Department data integrity in the grants management software to ensure high-quality data that is easily accessible in a consistent manner.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of an electronic filing process for the Compliance department database on the NED server.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of the Compliance department’s data and accuracy and consistency of both manually and electronically filed data.
    • Perform administrative and related clerical duties or ad hoc special engagements for the Compliance department as required.



  • Knowledge/Experience:
    • BS in Accounting or Finance or equivalent relevant experience;
    • 2+ years of related experience;
    • Experience with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint;
    • Experience with grant management database and/or audit management software;
    • Working knowledge of OMB’s Uniform Guidance: 2 CFR Part 200 Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards;


  • Other Qualifications:
    • Advanced fluency (reading, writing, and speaking) in a foreign language(s) preferred.
    • Authorized to work in the United States.
