The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a federally funded, private, nonprofit grantmaking organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks a Program Officer for the Global program.  The position is based in Washington, D.C.

 

Position Summary:

The Program Officer will work with the senior program staff to manage the Endowment’s Global grants portfolio, including monitoring and assessment of projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely and flexibly with a diverse range of democracy actors across the world;
  • Monitor the implementation of NED-approved projects and evaluate the effectiveness and the institutional growth of NED grantees;
  • Produce written materials and presentations to provide funding recommendations to NED leadership;
  • Travel domestically and internationally on a regular basis;
  • Track political developments around the world;
  • Coordinate with other NED teams;
  • Maintain contacts with organizations and individuals in Washington and abroad working to advance democracy and human rights.

  

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge/Experience:
    • Master’s level education or equivalent knowledge in International Affairs, Political Science, History, or a related discipline is required;
    • Significant experience in nonprofit work;
    • At least 4 years of democracy-related program experience is required.

 

  • Other Qualifications:
    • Expertise on topics related to technology and/or the media and information space and their connection to democracy and human rights;
    • Knowledge of crosscutting political developments and trends;
    • Solid understanding of civil society issues and familiarity with civil society networks and organizations;
    • Fluency in at least one foreign language is desirable;
    • Knowledge of program assessment techniques;
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally;
    • Authorized to work in the United States.
