21105 Program Assistant/Assistant Program Officer, Emergency Response

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a Congressionally funded, private, nonprofit grantmaking organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks a Program Assistant or Assistant Program Officer in support of the Endowment’s emergency response and partner support initiative. This position is based in Washington, D.C.


Position Summary:


The Position will provide day-to-day administrative and programmatic support, including coordination, production of written documents, resource development, database management, and communication.



  • Research and provide written briefings. Attend and report on relevant conferences, meetings, and other events.
  • Provide general support for senior staff in fulfillment of the Endowment’s mission.
  • Organize and facilitate logistical preparations for events and travel. Travel, as required.
  • Coordinate and engage with other NED departments.
  • Assist in tracking and developing budgets.
  • Perform general administrative duties as assigned.
  • The level of responsibility and independence in assigned tasks will increase with experience.



  • Knowledge/Experience:
    • Undergraduate degree in relevant field required.
    • A minimum of two years of programmatic experience or administrative support.
    • Strong database knowledge, including data quality control and searches.
    • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite.


  • Other Qualifications:
    • Study or work experience abroad preferred.
    • Experience providing direct support to civil society activists preferred.
    • Proficiency in a foreign language, preferred.
    • Authorized to work in the United States.

    • Attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
    • High degree of organization and initiative
    • Works well in a team environment

  This position is part of the NED Bargaining Unit.
