The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a federally funded, private, nonprofit grantmaking organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks an Assistant Program Officer for the Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA).  The position is based in Washington, D.C.

 

 

Position Summary:

The Assistant Program Officer works as an integral part of CIMA within the overall framework of NED and is responsible for components of the CIMA mission, including partnership development, project coordination, and knowledge management. The successful candidate will also contribute to other CIMA functions, including report production, event management, and strategic outreach.

 

Responsibilities: 

Project Management and Partnerships

  • Lead CIMA’s regional consultations work, including developing partnerships with media experts across several regions; supporting planning and implementation of regional events; leading follow up processes; and maintaining engagement with participants of consultations across several regions
  • Liaise with NED programs teams to facilitate effective collaboration for planning regional consultations and follow-up processes and to learn about media grantees from various regions
  • Work as part of the CIMA team to build and maintain partnerships with individuals and organizations working in media development
  • Support the Senior Director and Associate Director/Editor to conduct outreach to organizations, corporations and individuals involved in media development for possible collaboration on initiatives, events, or special projects
  • Maintain a database of partners and collaborators, particularly those involved in CIMA’s regional consultations
  • Support the Associate Director/Editor to recruit consultants as part of CIMA’s regional consultations portfolio, and support editorial processes as required

Research and Writing

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of issues related to media development
  • Provide written content for CIMA blog, CIMA reports and other content channels, particularly as it related to regional coordination efforts
  • Conduct background research and prepare research memos on topics related to collective action and partnerships for media development and reform

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge/Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced studies or graduate degree preferred;
    • 2+ years of relevant work experience in international development or democracy assistance programs, with experience in international media development preferred;
    • Experience in organizing working groups and conferences;
    • Experience with project management tools and processes.
  • Other Qualifications:
    • Knowledge of international media issues or democracy promotion programs;
    • Experience living and working abroad an asset;
    • Proficiency in a second language an asset;
    • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Competencies:
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
    • High degree of organization and initiative;
    • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
